This bottle
is not yours.

You keep it for a fortnight. Then it goes back on the step, the truck takes it, and after 41 minutes on the wash line somebody else drinks out of it.

CHF 9 sits on the glass. CHF 15 sits on the crate. You get all of it back the day you stop.

01 — THE ONLY OTHER THING THIS SITE ASKS

Are you on the route?

One truck. Four valleys, 31 villages, plus Chur and Landquart. If your postcode is not on it you cannot buy from us at any price, and we will say so.

Checked against the route file. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent.

And if you are simply thirsty — Swiss tap water is excellent and it is free. Drink that. This is not a drink, it is a delivery you owe something back to.

02 — WHAT THE DEPOSIT IS FOR

3.40 → 3.05

New, the wall is 3.4 mm — about 2.6× a single-use bottle. We read the serial and scan the wall at three points on every wash. Under 2.90 mm anywhere and the bottle is destroyed, whatever its fill count says.

Serial 00417 was first filled on 14 March 2019. It is on fill 62. Its thinnest reading is 3.05 mm. After roughly thirty trips the crate divider grinds a ring into the shoulder where the bottle rides. You can feel it with a thumb.

Design life is 50 fills. The scan is the real judge.

03 — BETWEEN ONE MOUTH AND THE NEXT

of nothing.

The paper label dissolves in the first stage. The wordmark is a consumable — we reprint it every fill. The five-digit serial and the year are cut into the heel with a laser, not printed, and they outlast the name.

04 — THE GROUND BEHIND THIS PAGE, READ

12,500 issued.
11,400 still out.

450 never came back.

Eleven of every twelve litres we draw are washing bottles.

That 3.6% is what the deposit is for. And the draw figure is the number I would rather print than hide.

The field behind this page is the fleet at 1:1 — 12,500 marks, one for every bottle issued. Struck = retired on the scan. Missing = never came back. It is a count taken this month, not a live feed, and the only serial anywhere on this site is 00417.

05 — THERE IS NO SHIPPING

One truck.
Same doorstep,
same weekday,
fortnightly.

4.2 t payload. Four valleys, 31 villages, plus Chur and Landquart. Full bottles out, empties in, in the same numbered six-bottle Harasse — which also comes back.

1,085 households and 41 restaurants and Gasthäuser. About 72% have been on it more than a year. Households take 6 L a fortnight; restaurants take a full Harasse a week.

THE ABSTRACTION RIGHT

We do not own the spring. The right belongs to a Genossenschaft of eleven households. Granted 1961. Renewed 2018 for 25 years. We lease it.

THE SPRING CHAMBER

Fadära fissure spring, 1,684 m, a side valley of the Prättigau. Gravity-fed, 900 m of stainless from the chamber to the filler. No pump — the water never enters a pressure vessel. Flow measured continuously since 1994.

08 — THE SAME STEP

It was out here before you.
It will be out here after.

The crate stays on the step. In fourteen days the truck comes back, takes six empties, leaves six full, and the file gets one more line.
